Title: Choirs Count! How to use the National Choral Census data
Abstract: The 2017 Canadian National Choral Census indicates that 10% of Canadians sing in a choir. Review census reports with a focus on using the findings to benefit your own organizations. Refine your “elevator pitch” and leave armed with a copy of the census report and infographics.
Biography: Diana Clark (BC), Heather Fraser (NS), and Meghan Hila (ON) worked extensively with lead researcher Kelly Hill/ Hill Strategies to develop the questions and manage all aspects of the first-ever National Choral Census, funded by the Canada Council and Choral Canada. They have a combined expertise as choral musicians, conductors, choral administrators of national, provincial and community organizations and music educators. Their pan- Canadian and bilingual perspective helped to ensure that the data collected would be useful and meaningful to choral organizations of all kinds.
Diana Clark serves as VP Advocacy on the Choral Canada Board, Artistic Director Coastal Sound Music Academy and Elementary music specialist. Heather Fraser is Program Coordinator for Nova Scotia Choral Federation and Artistic Director of Annapolis Valley Honour Choir and Aeolian Singers. Meghan Hila is General Manager of Choral Canada and a singer.
