Title: Be the Change: Choral Singing and Social Inclusion
Abstract: The Stella’s Circle Inclusion Choir is made up of participants who face many barriers from fully participating in their community. In 2017, the Choir received Canda150 funding to work with Juno Award winner Amelia Curran to write a song together celebrating community. The process was filmed by Roger Maunder and will be screened as part of a panel discussion in the session.

Biography: Helen has a long history of community work particularly in relation to women's issues and social justice. In her early career she was an educator and taught classroom music and directed choirs from 1965 - 1978. In 2007, as she looked to retiring from the workforce, Helen returned to music, her long time passion, joined the St. John's Community Choir, and volunteered as director for the new Stella's Circle Inclusion Choir. Helen is excited to reclaim her passion for music and engage with community through music in her current role as volunteer director of Stella's circle Inclusion Choir.”
